The Lead RAN Solution Architect position resides in the Wireless Technologies department at CableLabs. This department conducts research and development in new and emerging wireless technologies including 4G, 5G, 6G, Wi-Fi, and spectrum sharing strategies. Our team plays a crucial role in developing industry standards and technical regulatory policies for mobile and Wi-Fi network design, deployment, service delivery, and operations in licensed, unlicensed, and shared spectrum. Why This Role Is Exciting The Lead RAN Solutions Architect will develop solutions and new technologies for converged wireless and wired networks, including 5G/6G, DOCSIS, NTN, and Wi-Fi. Responsibilities include designing end-to-end solutions, network architecture, performance requirements, technology roadmaps, and vendor evaluations. The role involves integrating 5G/6G, DOCSIS, Wi-Fi, and NTN networks onto a single infrastructure, requiring interaction with vendors, operators, and standard bodies. What You'll Do Research and develop end-to-end solutions for converged networks, including 5G/6G, DOCSIS, NTN, and Wi-Fi Develop, test, and integrate 5G PHY/MAC layer features to enhance service delivery, reliability, and performance Create models and simulation tools (using MATLAB, Python) to predict network performance, including RF propagation and seamless connectivity Conduct lab and field measurements using spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other tools Ensure functional and performance integration of new products Collaborate with standards bodies (e.g., 3GPP, GSMA, IEEE) on technical contributions Develop calibration and performance optimization procedures Design architecture and vendor solution roadmaps Document research outcomes in papers or technical reports Qualifications Must Have: 5-10 years' experience in system integration and deployment of 5G or mobile networks Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with emphasis on Telecommunications Expertise in 5G NR PHY and MAC layers and 3GPP standards Understanding of converged networks Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C/C++ Knowledge of RF propagation, channel modeling, and interference analysis Hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers and network analyzers Ability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision Preferred: Familiarity with DOCSIS networks and protocols Knowledge of 5G core and 3GPP SA standards Participation in industry standards activities (3GPP, IEEE, GSMA) Broad understanding of wireless communications and RF principles Strong analytical and communication skills Self-motivated with a willingness to learn Benefits Salary: $135,200 - $165,360, with bonus potential up to 20% Health: Medical, dental, vision insurance; FSA and HSA options Retirement: 401(k) with up to 6% employer match plus an 8% additional contribution, vesting after 2 years Work-Life Balance: Flexible hours, unlimited PTO, 11 paid holidays, paid family and medical leave Additional info: Travel up to 25%.
