The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY :
Directs the management of nursing services and the supervision of the professional and ancillary staff for a cluster of two or more correctional facilities. Interprets, implements and monitors standards for health services in compliance with ACA standards and UTMB Correctional Managed Care systems policies and departmental procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Contributes to the success of the UTMB Correctional Managed Care operation.
Provides leadership and direction for the facility nursing services staff.
Provides regular communication of information to facility staff regarding unit operational, regional and system-wide issues.
Ensures the delivery of competent and safe patient care, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Adheres to resource and cost containment budgetary guidelines.
Participates in budget formulation and management.
Ensures facility compliance with institutional, professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
Assures that all staff are oriented to and competent in the performance of their duties.
Develops and implements quality assurance/improvement programs at the facilities.
Implements utilization management programs at the facilities.
Assumes 24 hour responsibility and accountability for the operation of the facilities.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
Performs related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT :
Standard clinical correctional facility equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work environment is located in a clean and safe medical facility within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center.
Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
Occasional lifting may be heave and awkward, over 50 lbs.
Vision, hearing, talking and sense of touch abilities must be adequate enough to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as: reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate verbal communication.
Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputs.
Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
Able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex and/or changing activities.
May be required to be on standby and work extended hours in extraordinary situations.
Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
