Summary & ObjectiveThe Director, Nursing Services assumes authority and responsibility for planning, organizing, implementing, directing, evaluating and controlling the overall operation of the Nursing Department. The Director of Nursing has 24/7 responsibility of the Nursing Department.Essential FunctionsPlans, organizes, implements, directs, evaluates and controls the overall operation of the Nursing Department.Assures the Nursing goals and objectives which are reflective of the facility's management philosophy.Directs monitors and evaluates all Nursing Department Committees, councils and team functions.Implements, monitors and controls the approved department budget.Assures Nursing Management team develops and implements patient and/or resident care plans that reflect compliance with licensure and accrediting agenciesAssigns responsibility within the scope of the individual's abilities, job description and licensuresMeets with Director, Executive / Administrator to discuss escalated matters, obtain direction and set time frames for planned activities.Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices andimplementation.Ensures the needs of all patient and/or resident needs can be met.Participates in daily or weekly management team meetings to discuss patient and/or resident's status, census changes, personnel, or patient and/or resident's complaints or concerns to ensure an effective QAPI program.*Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.Other DutiesCollaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate patient and/or resident's care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility.Coordinates nursing services with all departments as needed.Oversees nursing schedules to assure they meet patient and/or resident needs and regulatory and budgetary standards.Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assures sufficient staff is hired.Establishes, implements, and monitors the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary,and comfortable environment designed to prevent the devilment and transmission of disease and infection.Ensure Nursing Department is prepared for inspections/surveys.Participates in the preparation of the Plan of Correction response to an inspection survey, and implementsany follow-up requirement for any nursing citations.Promotes customer service and hospitality and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concernsfrom patient and/or resident or families about nursing services.Promotes positive employee engagement, teamwork, mutual respect and safety work practices.Maintain your required certifications and mandatory skill updates.Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.Perform other duties as assignedAnswers call lights within appropriate established timeframe.Supervisory ResponsibilityMay serve as an interim department leader depending on needPhysical RequirementsMust be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.DisclaimerThe job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
