HOW A STORAGE ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Responsibilities and Duties Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade and support various storage and backup platforms and associated management tools. Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologies Adhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as required Participate in the evaluation, deployment, management, and integration of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and technical service lanes Incident support and participation in on-call rotation during off hours and weekends Create and maintain documentation: logical/physical diagrams, run books and other technical engineering documents Consistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes Oversee the Installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating procedures Oversees the updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and security Ensures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are collected and regularly reviewed Keeps abreast of current developments in storage and backup technology to assist Federal staff in assessing the future direction of storage and backup technology WHAT YOULL NEED TO SUCCEED: Required Qualifications and Skills BS degree and 5+ years of related experience; or equivalent combination Hands on engineering experience with NetApp and other storage technologies and concepts Experience with SAN, NAS and iSCSI storage implementations Experience with capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environments Experience in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup environments Experience with data center migrations and storage replication technologies Senior level experience with design, development, implementation and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware platforms and data centers Strong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components in storage environment Strong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts: disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet Strong understanding of essential TCP/IP concepts: TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, etc. Understanding of security best practices, federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG, etc.) CompTIA Security+ or similar for IAT Level II DoD 8570 certification Proficient written and oral communication skills Strong collaborative attitude and ability to work in a team environment Ability to take direction Desired Qualifications and Skills Experience leveraging scripts to audit and enforce configuration standards
