Job Description Alabama State University, College of Visual and Performing Arts, invites applications to fill the position of Costume Shop Supervisor. The successful applicant will manage the daily operations of the costume shop, to include maintaining shop equipment, ordering supplies, supervising students, and have an active role in the execution of department productions and related activities.

Duties and Responsibilities: Plans the operation of the costume shop for the entire season of theatrical productions and for individual productions Performs minor repairs to sewing machines, serge machines, and other shop equipment as necessary Coordinates and schedules costume shop lab hours for students Oversees and instructs students in the execution of the costume design for productions Oversees production build and student crews for rehearsals and performances Supervises purchasing of fabric, notions and other costume shop supplies Oversees inventory of costumes and materials Supervises the construction, alteration, repair, cleaning/maintenance and storage of theatrical costumes, the construction or purchasing of wigs and theatrical make up Coordinates space usage for cast dressing needs Oversees and inventories donations of clothing and materials to costume shop Strikes costumes after each production and performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma and 1 year of experience in costuming, sewing, or other closely related field. Must have working knowledge of theater production operations and procedures, supervisory practices and principles, principles and practices and techniques of costume construction, various eras and appearance of vintage clothing, skills in making patterns, cutting, draping, sewing, dying and fitting costumes. Master's of Fine Arts degree, Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or a Bachelor's degree in Theater, Costume Design or related field or Costume Design or related field preferred.
