Overview The Director of Legal Automation and Operations will serve as a key operational leader within the Legal Department reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and joining the Legal Management Team (LMT). The Director will have responsibility for the oversight and execution of all department functions outside the provision of legal counsel. This role partners closely with the Legal leadership team to drive operational performance, elevate organizational capability, and advance functional effectiveness across the enterprise. The Director of Legal Automation and Operations will advance the Legal Department’s automation goals and operational footprint. This includes driving transformational initiatives that position the function as a scalable, high-performance business enabler aligned with Halliburton’s global standards. Job Duties Leadership of legal automation and operational personnel and alignment of their activities with strategic department goals Serve on the Legal Management Team and deep collaboration with the legal leadership team to streamline workflows and enhance team engagement Deployment of automation across the legal function including responsible for driving legal technology adoptions and creating effective legal management systems and procedures; CLM, MM and ELM Identification, selection, and integration of best-in-class platforms for matter management, document and knowledge management, eDiscovery, e-billing, and contract lifecycle optimization Development, deployment, and governance of policies, procedures, and standardized workflows to support scalable and sustainable department operations Ownership of department budgeting processes, including planning, forecasting, and variance analysis Implementation of financial controls and real-time spend tracking related to outside counsel and vendor engagements Oversight of vendor relationship management, including negotiation of rates, scope, and service-level agreements with external legal service providers Education of the team on automation and industry trends and current legal changes Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrates strong understanding of legal functions, expertise in implementing policies, processes and technologies Builds and fosters a connected team culture Demonstrates deep operational understanding and extensive hands-on expertise with key legal systems, including matter management, document and knowledge management, eDiscovery, e-billing, and contract lifecycle management Shows proven track record of aligning platforms with strategic objectives to enable scalable performance, mitigate risk, and reinforce legal department value across business units Partners across organizational layers to meet established goals and drive strategic outcomes Exercises sound independent judgment and decision-making in high-impact environments, delivering results with minimal oversight Brings advanced analytical rigor and refined writing capabilities to bear in support of business-critical initiatives Education Bachelors required, JD or Masters preferred At least 5-10 years’ experience working in an in-house legal department Medical, dental, vision, coverage in addition to life and disability insurance plans Paid Vacation Days, Paid Holidays, and the ability to purchase additional days off Retirement and Savings (401K) Plan with a matching contribution Family Care program includes paid time off to care for sick or injured immediate family members, adoption reimbursement, paternal and maternal leave for baby bonding and more.
