About The Position
Dexis seeks an experienced
Editor
to support an anticipated project with the Department of Labor in the Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking (OCFT) to support communication, research and data analysis. The Department of Labor (DOL)/ILAB reports on child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking in accordance with Congressional Mandates and an Executive Order.
This position is based in Washington, DC and is contingent upon award.
Responsibilities
Ensure that all written deliverables are of the highest quality and are completed on time and within budgeted amounts. Lead copy-editing, substantive editing, fact-checking, citation verification, and proofreading for reports, country profiles, policy briefs, and data visualizations. Manage editorial workflow and production calendars, coordinating with researchers, analysts, graphic designers, and communications staff to meet tight deadlines. Maintain version control and enforce consistency in terminology, formatting, and branding across all contract deliverables. Implement quality-control processes (edit checklists, peer reviews) to guarantee accuracy, clarity, and adherence to ILAB style and Section 508 requirements. Provide guidance and mentoring to authors and junior editors on best practices in writing, referencing, and plain-language principles. Liaise with the COR and Contract Manager to incorporate feedback, secure approvals, and finalize documents for publication in print, PDF, web, and mobile formats.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, international affairs, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Minimum of seven years of professional editing experience for federal or international-development audiences, with emphasis on technical and policy publications. Expertise in AP, Chicago, and GPO style guides and demonstrated ability to adapt style rules to client-specific requirements. Proven skill translating complex technical and statistical information into clear, audience-appropriate prose. Experience managing multi-author editorial workflows and meeting concurrent deadlines under fast-paced conditions. Familiarity with child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking topics—or ability to rapidly acquire subject-matter knowledge—and with related datasets. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and collaborative platforms such as SharePoint or Google Workspace; experience ensuring Section 508 compliance. Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a consistent commitment to quality assurance.
