Associate General Counsel-Litigation

1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicants Scouting America is seeking a skilled and experienced litigation attorney to manage legal claims and litigation matters under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of litigation and claims management, including evaluating claims, coordinating with insurance adjusters, collaborating with outside counsel, and advising internal stakeholders. The Litigation Counsel plays a key role in developing litigation strategy, managing discovery, and providing case assessments to the Legal Department and senior leadership. This position also supports the Membership Standards Department, particularly on matters related to youth safety and safeguarding, and helps guide the organization’s risk mitigation efforts. This position is required to be onsite. Responsibilities Coordinates with the Deputy General Counsel to manage outside counsel’s handling of claims and litigation, including the use of Scouting America technology to track communications, case progress, and compliance with Outside Counsel Guidelines and other Scouting America policies. Actively participates in litigation management, including coordination of experts, outside counsel, and other external resources. Supports preparation of discovery responses, preparation of witnesses for depositions and trial, participates in mediations, and attends key proceedings as representative of Scouting America. Provides timely claims and case assessments. Serves as a resource to the Membership Standards Department on youth safeguarding initiatives and ineligible volunteer file discovery. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Knowledge of:

Litigation involving personal injuries, alleged abuse, property disputes, and commercial matters. Risk management principles and best practices. Skill in:

Claims and case assessment, coordination with insurance claims adjusters, and management of outside counsel. Legal research, analysis, and writing. Leadership and team management, including coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation. Written and verbal communication to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Negotiation and conflict resolution. Project and budget management using legal research databases, legal software programs and AI. Ability to:

Identify legal issues, assess risks, and develop effective solutions. Ensure all legal documents and processes comply with relevant laws, court rules, and regulations. Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage numerous projects simultaneously across multiple jurisdictions. Work independently and take initiative while also collaborating effectively with others. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal and other information. Manage outside counsel and other external partners. Education Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school in the U.S. Qualifications Minimum of four years of litigation experience. Must pass a criminal history background check and become a member of Scouting America. Licenses Must be licensed to practice law in any state. Preference At least two years of in-house litigation experience. Experience in personal injury defense or insurance defense is also preferred. Seniority level
