Programs - San Francisco Achievers (SF Achievers) is a community based non-profit organization whose mission is to support African-American young men in San Francisco Unified School District, helping them lead and thrive in higher education and beyond by closing the opportunity gap. We accomplish our mission through effective student support services, mentorships, internships, and scholarships that prepare youth to matriculate into and graduate from college. SF Achievers believes that education is the fuel that best facilitates the aspiration for a stable life. Our programs aim to help prepare African American young men who attend San Francisco public high schools for their future in a rapidly changing world. By fostering the development of emotionally healthy, life-long learners SF Achievers aids their ability to contribute to the economic and social development of their communities and compete in a global economy. SF Achievers staff, in collaboration with a diverse network of dedicated mentors, build strong relationships with students and introduce them to transformative experiences through our three signature programs: High School Support, Leadership Academy, and Scholar Success. Partnering closely with SFUSD schools, particularly Burton High School, we work to ensure students gain access to essential resources and opportunities that inspire growth, resilience, and academic achievement. Many of these students also participate in enrichment activities, enhancing their journey and preparing them for success beyond high school. The Scholar Services Coordinator (SSC) plays a vital role in supporting San Francisco Achievers (SFA) by managing College Scholar services, mentoring programs, and events. Reporting to the Program Manager with oversight from the Executive Director, the SSC’s primary responsibilities include overseeing financial aid support, scholarships, mentorship, and leadership development for African American youth in San Francisco. Key Responsibilities ● Financial Aid Support: Leads SFA's Postsecondary Financial Aid Initiative by assessing financial aid needs, researching external scholarship opportunities, and maintaining a scholarship clearinghouse. Provides personalized financial aid guidance to Scholars and ensures they have access to relevant resources. ● Scholarship Management: Coordinates the internal and external application processes, facilitates selection panels, and manages volunteer participation. ● Student Resource Liaison: Acts as a primary contact for students, parents, stakeholders, and educational institutions to support each Scholar’s financial needs, ensuring ongoing support throughout their academic journey. ● Internship Opportunities: Connects Scholars with internship programs, facilitating experiences that align with career aspirations and college readiness. SCHOLAR SERVICES COORDINATOR 2 Case Management ● Student Needs Assessment: Conducts intake meetings to understand each student’s academic, social, and personal needs, developing individualized success plans. ● Academic & Personal Coaching: Provides ongoing coaching, sets personal and academic goals, and connects students with support services as needed. ● Crisis Intervention: Offers support and resources to students facing personal, financial, or academic challenges, ensuring continuity in their academic progress. ● Progress Monitoring: Tracks each Scholar’s academic and personal progress, documenting key performance data to identify and support students at risk. ● Recruitment & Outreach: Leads efforts to recruit quality mentors and refine outreach strategies. Engages with community organizations to expand the mentor pool. ● Mentor Support: Oversees mentor training, matches mentors and mentees, and regularly evaluates mentorship relationships to ensure effectiveness and provide necessary support. ● Program Evaluation: Monitors mentor engagement, documents mentor hours, and reports on mentorship impact to continuously enhance the program. ● Leadership Academy Development: Collaborates with the Executive Director and Programs Manager to strengthen the Leadership Academy, focusing on academic, social, and professional growth. ● School & Community Partnerships: Builds relationships with schools and community organizations to support recruitment and engagement. Employment Qualifications ● Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2-3 years of professional youth development experience, including recruiting, case management, coaching and mentoring—and/or leading a mentoring or youth service learning program ● Background/knowledge of volunteer recruitment, training and management, including mentor matching, relationship building, and mentor support (population specific) ● Emotional intelligence matched by cultural awareness/competency; ability to design and manage programming that aims to address the unique challenges of diverse, underserved youth and communities ● Extremely well-organized, detail-oriented and able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while adapting to change; self-starter and cooperative-collaborator with the ability to develop positive relationships with community volunteers and with youth ● Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, & proprietary CRM software and/or other cloud-based tools; digital/social media savvy—i.e. websites, social networks, etc. ● Exceptionally capable of functioning under the supervision of senior leaders, while SAN FRANCISCO ACHIEVERS NOV. ‘24SCHOLAR SERVICES COORDINATOR 3 preserving the ability to work independently as well as part of a team ● Excellent public speaking/presentation skills; written communication and diplomacy skills Additional Requirements ● Able to work some evenings and weekends ● Current driver’s license, clean driving record along with cleared background check This role is an exceptional opportunity for a passionate, detail-oriented individual to contribute to meaningful outcomes for African American youth, fostering a supportive environment that champions academic and professional success.
