https://dotd.la.gov/about/office-of-management-and-finance/human-resources/career-center/ About this position: The overall function of this position is to assist the higher level technicians in the District Laboratory by performing basic sampling and testing functions. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring high quality testing and sampling in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM and LADOTD testing procedures. The incumbent may be required to perform duties in extreme conditions (rain, heat or cold), to use a state vehicle for District-wide travel (a valid Louisiana driver's license will be required) and to lift up to 45 lbs. Incumbent will be required to operate a computer and attend all available computer training courses offered. The incumbent will be required to operate the drilling rig for District 62 Laboratory field operations. Structured training requirements must be met and maintained. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives. Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED. Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Receives and stocks material samples, verifies sample information, performs gradations, and enters data. Prepares and tests soils for liquid limits, plastic limits, organics, PH, and resistivity. Assists Tech 5 Laboratory lead worker with data entry and ensures soils meet specifications. Assists Field Crew in boring or drilling holes for TR-602 acceptance testing, subgrade investigations, borrow pit sampling, and sign holes. Acquires data by drilling, taking measurements, performing DCP tests, and taking samples for District 62 Design Section. Obtains structured training for permanent status and advancement in the laboratory. Attends meetings, classes, and conferences to facilitate task performance. Position-Specific Details:

Engineering Technician 1 - Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
