Position Description

Assistant General Counsel – CO2 and Energy Transition Ventures

The position is for an experienced attorney responsible for providing legal advice to:

Kinder Morgan’s CO2 business, engaged in CO2 production, transportation, sale, and oil and gas production in West Texas using enhanced oil recovery.

Kinder Morgan’s Energy Transition Ventures (ETV), including renewable natural gas (RNG) and decarbonization projects like carbon capture and sequestration.

The core responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on various agreements such as asset/equity purchase and sale agreements, confidentiality agreements, joint venture agreements, project development contracts, gas processing and interconnection agreements, sales agreements, and real estate agreements.

This role is based at Kinder Morgan’s headquarters in Houston, Texas, with a hybrid work model.

Position Requirements

Versatile lawyer with significant experience in complex legal matters and business transactions within the energy sector.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience working with clients at all organizational levels, including management.

Team player, flexible, and willing to support the effective operation of the company’s businesses.

Responsive, adaptable, and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience

JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law.

7+ years of legal experience, preferably with a reputable law firm or in-house at an energy company.

Substantial experience with development projects, commercial transactions, M&A, and operational matters in midstream energy and oil and gas industries.
