Job Description
Position Summary: LTYC is seeking a passionate and dynamic Music Instructor to teach general music classes to students in grades K–8. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum that introduces students to vocal and instrumental music, rhythm, basic theory, and musical appreciation. This role is ideal for someone who loves music, enjoys working with children, and is excited to cultivate a love for music in young learners. This is an independent contractor position and not an employee role.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and lead fun, age-appropriate general music lessons for K–8 students.
Introduce students to musical concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, pitch, tempo, and musical notation.
Teach vocal and basic instrumental music (e.g., percussion, recorder, ukulele, keyboards).
Lead group singing, rhythm games, and movement-based musical activities.
Foster an inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, participation, and cultural appreciation.
Prepare students for informal performances or school events as applicable.
Collaborate with other staff on interdisciplinary arts programming or school-wide activities.
Maintain instruments and classroom materials in good condition.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field—or equivalent teaching experience or has completed at least 30 college credits
At least 3 years of prior experience teaching music to children, ideally in an elementary or middle school setting.
Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles.
Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young learners.
Additional Requirements:
Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.
References: Three professional references required, including at least one from a previous position working with children.
Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from school site(s).
Certifications:
Valid CPR & First Aid certification.
Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).
Health Clearance:
A letter from a physician confirming candidate is in good health , free from communicable diseases (including TB).
Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state, federal, and childcare clearance).
