The
Chief Engineer
oversees the engine room activities, ensuring the mechanical operations, repair, and maintenance of the vessel meet safety and regulatory standards. Essential Functions:
Manage the functionality and safety of vessel systems including engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration, and sanitation systems. Set performance standards and resolve technical problems using appropriate solutions. Respond to emergencies, including launching rafts, donning safety suits, and fire or flooding responses. Ensure proper documentation for energy management, conservation, and maintenance programs. Coordinate with the Captain and management on project feasibility and costs. Implement and oversee training to ensure regulatory compliance and proper qualification of engineering staff. Advise management on developments affecting operations and profitability. Maintain safety policies and ensure safe work practices. Minimum Requirements:
Valid USCG Chief Engineer License with 3000HP minimum and STCW endorsement (RFPEW; OICEW). Preferred Experience:
At least three years as a licensed Chief Engineer on a processing vessel. Three years as an Assistant Engineer on a similar vessel. Advanced firefighting skills, current First Aid and CPR certifications. Clean safety record and familiarity with federal and state regulations. Knowledge of pollution control, HR basics, and production support. Note: Subject to random drug screening as per USCG requirements. Physical and Mental Demands:
The role requires physical activity including lifting up to 75 pounds, climbing, and balancing, along with mental skills such as reading, speaking, writing in English, decision-making, teamwork, and problem-solving.
