JOB DIMENSIONS • The Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing accurate results that will become binding documents to our customers on the specifications of the product(s) they are purchasing. The laboratory technician is responsible for the correct use of the sensitive laboratory equipment to prevent damage. • Compliance: Responsible for complying with all AIMS, HESQ policies & practices including ISO-9001, ISO-14001, ISO-45001 and RCMS. This includes compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. For example, OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, etc. KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE % OF TIME (USING RANGES) FOR EACH ITEM NEXT TO EACH ACTIVITY, TOTALING TO 100%; USE INCREMENTS OF 10% AND HIGHER; BALANCE OF SMALLER ITEMS CAN FALL INTO "OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED") 70% • Performs routine analyses on raw materials, in process, finished product samples and accurately report results into LIMS and SAP. • Performs routine analysis on environmental samples, enters data in LIMS and submits results to interested parties. • Maintains proficiency in all standard lab methods, software and equipment used in the lab. • Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots instruments as required and documents all information. • Performs daily quality control checks on designated equipment. • Ensure all hazardous waste produced in the lab, is removed daily. • Maintains required documentation and filing of test records, as required by all relevant Quality Systems. 10% • Manages retain samples life cycle throughout the lab and ensure weekly transfer to retain room. • Provides assistance in customer complaint investigations. 10% • Maintains sample retain room and dispose of expired samples in hazardous waste drum monthly. • Manages inventory of all gas chromatography gases including ordering of gases as needed. • Oversee lab supply inventory and ensure adequate level of inventory, is maintained. 10% • Maintains knowledge of Client test procedures. • Enters work notifications for maintenance needed within the Lab. • Maintains a safe work area in the lab. • Supports BBS process by performing observations. • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the plant's needs. CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT (INCLUDE % TRAVEL, IF APPLICABLE; THREE HES REFERENCES BELOW ARE REQUIRED ON ALL DESCRIPTIONS; SITE MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL HES REFERENCES; FOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS REFER TO THE JOB DEMAND FORM FOR THIS ROLE) • This person will work with salary, non-salary, and other hourly workers to safely analyze heavy mercaptans and sulfides • Supports the site HESQ policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements • Participates in HESQ activities provided by site management and Client (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.) • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE (INCLUDE DEGREE ATTAINED AND SPECIALTY OF EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES, YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE, SYSTEMS PROFICIENCY, ETC.) Required (before hiring): • Passing of a pre-employment physical. • High School Diploma. • Previous experience or training in the petrochemical industry performing similar work. • Good communication skills.
Desirable (before hiring): • Minimum of 2 years of accredited training in chemistry and/or laboratory techniques. • 4-year degree in Chemistry to improve future advancement potential.
Required (to become a qualified laboratory technician) • Completion of initial classroom training in environmental, safety, quality, emergency response and lab methods. Training in environmental includes management of lab wastes, emergency response plan training, spill response training, DOT, and basic HAZCOM instructions. • Completion of initial on-the-job training by a qualified laboratory technician or supervisor. • Must possess class D license for potable water operator.
