Job Description
In addition to the accountabilities listed for the Micro Lab Technician I role, under minimal supervision, performs microbiological and chemical analysis on finished product, raw materials, processing and environmental samples from manufacturing plants. Provides accurate laboratory testing to detect and enumerate organisms of interest by product in compliance with the ISO 17025 regulatory standards. Prepares media and reagents as required. Updates and ensures accuracy of SOPs. Manages an area of specialization which may include but not limited to: Ordering, maintaining an updated list of Biohazardous/Chemical materials, SDS sheets and facilitates safety meetings; Monitoring lab compliance with ISO 17025 regulatory standards and communicates/updates procedural guidelines; Ensures completion of BAX and Ribroprinter data back-up, reviews control sheets, changes BAX machine bulbs, does dye calibration, completes semi-annual BAX cleaning and quarterly Riboprinter cleaning. Coordinates daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly equipment programs. Audits calibration documentation and ensures all laboratory testing equipment is on a required maintenance schedule. Maintains accurate documentation and schedules in-house and vendor visits for equipment maintenance. Keeps up-to-date Standard Operating Procedures for equipment use, calibration and maintenance. Trains technicians on equipment calibration and use. Trains and mentors newly hired lab technicians on new procedures/best practices and introduces new SOP's related to testing. Specialist for training new technicians in allergen testing, general Lab testing, pathogen testing/confirmations, and coordinates, schedules and documents annual training for all technicians. Ensures daily laboratory operations are performed according to Standards and monitors Lab technicians' techniques and testing methods. Provides feedback and coaching to persons using incorrect techniques or methods. Qualifications
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your supervisor, as dictated by business necessity.
Bachelor's degree in the areas of Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or Food Science is preferred. Minimum 1 year experience equivalent to Tech 1 or based on competencies per assessment of management. Comprehensive knowledge of practices and principles of basic laboratory operations, techniques and procedures utilized in areas of microbiology and chemistry. Effective teamwork and communication, both written and verbal skills. Strong attention to detail, process flow and accuracy. Lab and computer skills (Microsoft Office). Ability to train and mentor less experienced technicians. Safely and effectively operates lab equipment. Accurately evaluate color shades and quality. Reports to Corporate Lab Supervisor.
