Job Description The Reentry and Rehabilitation Division within the Utah Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified and motivated applicant for an exciting role as a Correctional Administrator (Non-POST) position, specifically assigned as the Education Coordinator.
If you like to work collaboratively as well as independently to review and research evidence based educational curriculum, engage with Higher/Adult Education partners and further the fidelity of all educational services/programs within the Utah Department of Corrections, then this is the position for you! Principle Duties:
The Education Coordinator will oversee and coordinate all the education programs at the two Utah Correctional facilities in Salt Lake City and Gunnison as well as facilitate education programs in UDC partnering county jails. This is a supervisory position. The duties for this position include but are not limited to: Establishing criteria for contracting with future potential Higher/Adult Education partners. Monitoring contracts with current Higher/Adult Education partners to ensure consistency and fidelity standards are being met within all educational services/programs. Monitoring services offered within Utah Department of Corrections institutions, and contracted County Jails. Effectively communicate all directives from the Utah Legislative: Higher Education and Corrections Council Coordinating educational content, incorporating current technology into instruction, and providing guidelines for UDC educators and education partners. Collaborating with educators, stakeholders, and partnering education institutions: Ensuring effective and efficient implementation of educational initiatives. Monitoring program success: Making any necessary changes to programs to promote increased enrollment and completion rates. Reporting essential program data to stakeholders. Facilitating training: Coordinating professional development for UDC educators and education partners faculty and staff. Managing promotional events: Oversee the planning and implementation of graduation ceremonies for all education institutions. Supervision: Supervise and/or support members of the UDC Education team. Ideal Candidate:
Has a Master's degree in Education or related field or equivalent work experience. Has a State of Utah School Leadership License or an out of state license that is transferable to Utah. Has five years of experience in K-12 Education. Has at least two years of Administrative experience in K-12 Education; however, new graduates are encouraged to apply. Demonstrates experience with constructing/developing educational curriculum and educational pedagogy. Has exceptional public speaking skills and a willingness to advocate for students within alternative settings. Demonstrates an ability to provide positive and inspirational leadership/guidance, supervise and evaluate the conduct/performance of all assigned personnel. Has the ability to implement policies, procedures, processes and ensure compliance with mandated requirements by the Utah Legislature, Juvenile Justice System and Corrections Education. Example of Job Duties:
Attend meetings with members of the Utah Legislative: Higher Education and Corrections Council.
Act as a liaison between the Utah Legislative: Higher Education and Corrections Council and the division's Higher/Adult Education partners and staff, employed within the Utah Department of Corrections.
Interact and work collaboratively with school district staff at all levels, the Utah Board of Education, correctional partners, as well as outside entities.
Monitor contracts of current and future Higher/Adult Education partners within the Utah Department of Corrections.
Ensure educational services/programs are meeting fidelity standards and best evidence based practices within Utah Department of Corrections institutions, Treatment Resource Centers (TRC) and contracted County Jails. Qualifications Listed below are the typical qualifications in knowledge, skill and ability we would like to see in an ideal candidate:
Administrative experience with juvenile justice, corrections education, adult education, and/or students learning in non-traditional school settings.
Experience in providing services to at-risk and high-risk students.
Demonstrates the ability to collaborate with other relevant colleagues and community members; while staying current on applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
Experience in preparing written materials (e.g. budgets, curriculum, reports, directives, memorandums, etc.) and delivering presentations.
Provide support to instructional staff to implement effective teaching practices for English Language Learners and special needs students, including laws and regulations of special education and 504 plans.
Demonstrates the ability to provide sound judgment, critical thinking, decision making and organizational skills.
Demonstrates the ability to work with limited supervision and to work effectively under deadlines and time constraints.
Demonstrate the ability to perform related duties as assigned to ensure effective operations of educational services/programs within the Utah Department of Corrections. Supplemental Information
