Principal Data Engineer (Data Engineering)
Philadelphia, PA - Hybrid (Onsite Tuesday-Thursday)
IntePros is seeking a Principal Data Engineer with deep expertise in SQL and ETL/ELT development to lead data engineering efforts within a mature, enterprise-scale data warehouse and data lake environment. This individual will play a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering complex data integration solutions, specifically around sourcing and onboarding third-party medical and pharmacy claims data into our platform. You'll work directly with cross-functional teams including DevOps, Application Developers, Business Analysts, System Administrators, and an 80% offshore development and QA team.
Key Responsibilities Architect and deliver scalable ETL/ELT solutions for data sourcing and integration from third-party vendors into the data warehouse. Provide technical oversight across multiple development streams; guide offshore developers and testers in delivering high-quality solutions. Lead the design and implementation of medium to large-scale data engineering jobs, ensuring adherence to best practices in architecture, security, and performance. Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions. Support production readiness: ensure handoff to production support, monitor initial deployments, and resolve critical issues. Participate in Agile ceremonies and leverage Azure Boards for sprint planning, task tracking, and status updates. Focus on SQL-based development (~99% of work) using platforms like Teradata, SQL Server, and Google Cloud (BigQuery). Assist with the stabilization of systems, balancing maintenance work (50%) with new development initiatives (50%). Must-Have Qualifications
10+ years of experience in data engineering and application development (flexible for the right candidate with strong enterprise experience). Proven leadership in data warehouse environments, ideally with large-scale, mature ecosystems. Advanced expertise in SQL development and RDBMS systems such as Teradata, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL. Strong experience with ETL/ELT tools and processes. Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP); BigQuery knowledge preferred. Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and systems analysis skills. Ability to guide and support offshore developers (~10 developers + 10 QA). Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where priorities shift daily. Strong interpersonal and communication skills - must be able to effectively collaborate across business, leadership, and technical teams. Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision. Nice-to-Haves
Background in Computer Science or related technical discipline. Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments. Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies and use of Azure Boards.
