Why does the job exist?
The System Administrator position exists to ensure the secure, efficient, and reliable operation of the agency's IT infrastructure. This role is critical for setting up, maintaining, and supporting both physical and virtual servers, operating systems, and cloud services. By managing key components such as DNS, Active Directory, network drives, and Intune-based security policies, the System Administrator helps safeguard the agency's technological environment.
How does it get done?
Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the setup, maintenance, and support of the organization's IT infrastructure, including designing and implementing hardware and software solutions, managing a vSphere environment, configuring and securing Windows and Linux systems, and overseeing backups, disaster recovery, and server uptime. It includes administration of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, MDM (Intune), and software licensing, while ensuring systems meet security standards in coordination with the CISO. The position also handles patch management and vulnerability remediation across platforms, including SSL certificates and third-party software, and supports annual penetration testing efforts. Additionally, the role provides tier 3 desktop support and assists the desktop support team as needed.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has strong experience managing IT infrastructure, including SimpliVity, vSphere, Windows, and Linux systems. They are skilled in Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Intune. They are security forward in their approach, know security best practices, can handle patching and vulnerability remediation, and can lead disaster recovery efforts. The candidate is also capable of providing tier 3 desktop support while working closely with the support team and CISO on system integrity and compliance.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and three (3) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's license, a current defensive driving course certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass Defensive Driving Course Certificate within six months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
The position involves primarily office-based work with extensive computer and phone use, long periods of sitting, and occasional physical activity such as standing, bending, or lifting 35 or more pounds. Exposure to dust, noise, and cramped spaces may occur. Occasional travel and work outside regular business hours (8:00am¿5:00pm, Monday¿Friday) may be required, with compensation time or flex time provided.
