The Business Intelligence Developer Associate plays a foundational role in enabling data-driven decision-making across the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). This position supports the agency's mission to ensure that INDOT executives, employees, vendors, federal representatives, and other State of Indiana personnel can access and utilize INDOT data effectively and responsibly. As a BI Developer, you will contribute to the development, maintenance, and delivery of data products that support operational and strategic goals. This includes dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that translate complex datasets into actionable insights. The role emphasizes strong customer engagement, requiring the developer to work closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver solutions that are both technically sound and user-friendly. In addition to technical development, in this role you will help educate users on best practices for interpreting data and using BI tools. This includes providing guidance on data literacy, promoting consistent data definitions, and supporting the adoption of self-service analytics platforms. This position is ideal for candidates with a passion for public service, a strong analytical mindset, and a desire to grow their technical skills in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. Location: This position is located in INDOT's Central Office, Indianapolis. Salary: This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $61,022.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience. A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows: Works closely with end users to gather requirements and translate them into effective/meaningful visual reporting tools. Presents data in a fashion that is easy to understand with proper documentation and user testing for successful adoption. Publishes workbooks and data products to appropriate QA, production, and public servers. Provides maintenance and support for production products. Collaborates with other BI professionals and data engineers around data/table structures to optimize dashboards and other self-service needs. Maintains a high degree of customer satisfaction through the implementation, investigation, analysis, training, and relationship building efforts. What You'll Need for Success

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 3+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role. Tableau certification is a plus Visual and artistic creative skills. Experience in working with one or more BI platforms (ex: Tableau, Power BI, ThoughtSpot). Strong understanding of relational and dimensional databases and data warehousing structures, theories, principles, and practices. Experience with geocoding and map visualizations. Experience generating public-facing visualizations. Experience optimizing visualizations for web and mobile device platforms. Experience manipulating large datasets. Effective communicator and problem solver. Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities. Strong written/oral communication and presentation/interpersonal skills. Resourceful self-starter and highly motivated team player. Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
