Assistant Dean, Finance Business Partner
The Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering at Brigham Young University is seeking an
Assistant Dean, Finance Business Partner
to lead its strategic financial operations. The college serves over 4,000 students across multiple departments and is known for its hands-on learning, industry collaboration, and innovation. This key leadership role will advise college leadership on financial strategy, ensure accounting accuracy and compliance, manage budgets, and represent the College in university-wide initiatives.
What you'll do in this position:
Advise College Leadership on Financial Strategy Serve as financial consultant and resource for college leadership and as a reference and authority for all college personnel on University policies and procedures related to accounting and financial issues. Deliver clear, data-driven financial reporting and analysis to support leadership decisions. Lead annual resource planning and provide consistent financial updates. Evaluate endowment distributions, scholarship awards, and spending plans for strategic alignment. Ensure Accounting Accuracy and Policy Compliance
Administer all aspects of a multi-million-dollar budget, with hundreds of complex and specialized accounts, including budget allocation, financial analysis, budget transfers and resource redistribution, setting up and closing accounts, strategic planning and forecasting, preparing timely and accurate internal/external reports, auditing and year-end close, etc. Monitor financial trends, enforce internal controls, and implement corrective actions as needed. Lead financial reporting and ensure alignment with GAAP and Workday standards. Manage Budgets and Operational Finance Processes
Conduct regular budget reviews, process amendments, and ensure departmental fiscal transparency. Train staff on GAAP, university policies, and Workday financial systems. Oversee transactions, project tracking, asset reporting, and grant/gift accounting. Lead Collaboration and Represent the College
Partner with Human Resources Business Partner to resolve cross-functional finance and HR matters. Represent the college in university councils and Utah's tech ecosystem initiatives. Execute strategic projects assigned by the dean and contribute to university-wide planning efforts. What qualifies you for this role:
Required
A firm commitment to the mission of BYU Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or directly related, significant work experience and ten years professional accounting experience, OR master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field or directly related, significant work experience and eight years professional accounting experience. Preferred
Professional finance leadership experience in a higher education institution, other not-for-profit, or for-profit entity. Three to five years public accounting experience. Fifteen years professional accounting experience. Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business. Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or similar financial credential What we offer in return:
