The Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver License Examiner, a position that is crucial for improving highway safety. In this role, you will utilize your analytical skills to evaluate the qualifications of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants. By becoming part of our dedicated team, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your customer service expertise while working at the Driver License Center, where a significant responsibility includes verifying identity documents to combat identity theft and fraud. Utilize your keen observation skills to evaluate the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as assess the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure they meet the safety standards required for driving. You will conduct various vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments, alongside administering knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses, ensuring candidates are well-versed in the Vehicle Code and traffic signage. Your meticulous attention to detail will be crucial as you scrutinize documents such as applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, court records, proof of residency, and official papers from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. State Department, and foreign nations to verify their authenticity. Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly. Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch. Overtime and travel as needed. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public. Special Requirements: This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application. This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment. All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment. This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z. Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement. This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
