DEFINITION/SELECTION PROCESS Under supervision of Recreation Supervisor, supervises, plans, organizes and conducts recreation programs at a community site for youngsters ages 6-14.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Assumes the responsibility for issuance and use of recreation equipment and supplies; conducts safety and maintenance inspections of buildings and facilities; prepares site for playground and special programs; leads, plans and organizes special contests, games, music, arts and crafts, sports, drama and dance activities; maintains paperwork and makes oral and written reports as required; assists in the supervision of community-wide special events as well as attending weekly meetings.
Recreation Leaders will work approximately two to three hours a day, three days per week, leading children in various recreational activities. Additional hours may be required for planning meetings, special programs, etc.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities. Spanish speaking skills are desirable. Ability to plan recreational programs for and work effectively with youths aged 6-14 years is highly desirable.
Knowledge of:
Basic arithmetic; basic reading skills; first aid principles and practices; recreation program principles and procedures; ood organizational skills; and basic communication skills. Ability to:
Make mathematical calculations; maintain accurate records; make sound decisions based on logical reasoning; and establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Standard First Aid Certificate and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate are desirable.
LICENSE:
Possession of a Class C California Driver's License is required. Class B California Driver's License is desirable. The information herein does not constitute an expressed or implied contract. These provisions are subject to change without notice. • At-Will designation refers to full-time employees in certain classifications and all part-time, temporary employees. The unclassified, non-budgeted employee is at-will, has no probationary period, and may be rejected at any time without cause and without the right of appeal. • Part-time, temporary appointments are "at-will" assignments, not subject to the competitive service process, and serve at the direction and discretion of the assigned department. • Part-time, temporary appointments are not eligible to receive vacation, holidays, or any other benefits provided to budgeted, regular status employees. • Part-time, temporary appointments, including PT PERS are eligible to accrue paid sick leave up to 5 days or 40 hours of accrued paid sick leave per year. Any accrued sick leave cannot be cashed out upon termination. (PT Retiree Annuitants are not eligible to accrue paid sick leave.) • Part-time, temporary appointments can be made for a period of up to 19 hours per week and cannot exceed 1,000 hours worked within one fiscal year without prior approval.
