Responsible for binding sheets or signatures into complete saddle-stitched and trimmed booklets. This is accomplished by operating an automated bindery-finishing machine along with the Ink Jet addressing equipment (producing books within postal guidelines). Duties/Responsibilities:

Machine setup and operation: Set up and fine tuning of pockets to ensure minimal drops and stops during operation Set and monitor machine calipers to ensure quality of finished product Set up, adjust and repair stitcher heads as needed for smooth and trouble-free operation Change and adjust trimmer knives Inspect working parts and be able to recognize those that need replacement Must be able to set up and run Ink Jet addressing equipment and produce books within postal guidelines and quality standards Read and understand the job ticket and all job specifications before beginning the job, including all Postal-related paperwork Constantly monitor quality of finished product Responsible for general maintenance and lubrication of machine Complete production records (time sheets, job jackets, etc.) Assist with housekeeping in the bindery area Give direction to crew through production and down time Follow all required Safety Procedures such as: PPE's Ergonomics, chemical Hazards, etc. Perform job in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees Prompt and regular attendance Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year as a stitcher operator or 2 years as a bindery assistant with experience on the stitcher Strong mechanical aptitude Leadership abilities Good knowledge of stitchers and binding operations and set-up practices Knowledge of the operation and function of other bindery equipment and machinery Good knowledge of the Ink Jet addressing equipment and postal regulations Satisfactory performance and knowledge in: 1) Pockets, 2) Calipers, 3) Stroke, 4) Stitcher heads, 5) In Feed, 6) Trimmer, 7) Counter Stacker, 8) Assist Equipment, 9) Personal Practice, 10) Maintenance, 11) Safety, is required. See attached list for criteria Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and respond to questions and instructions Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form Ability to deal with problems in a timely manner Physical Requirements:

Mandatory hearing protection while in the plant Moderate chemical exposure consisting of cleaning products and possible exposure to ink jet ink and wash, which is a hazardous substance. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and chemical protective gloves are required when using ink jet products Majority of this job requires standing for approximately 90% of the day Ability to lift 20 lbs.
