Press Material Handler 2
The Press Material Handler 2 supports pressroom operations by handling, inspecting, and transporting printed materials and production supplies. This role is responsible for removing, stacking, and bundling printed sheets and folded signatures from press equipment, inspecting materials for quality defects, and ensuring proper labeling and movement of materials between departments. The position may also operate material handling equipment and assist the press crew with equipment setup and make-ready tasks. Attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment are essential. Duties/Responsibilities:
Remove, flex, jog, and stack printed sheets, folded signatures, labels, or other in-process materials from printing or coating equipment. Inspect signatures for defects such as smearing, registration issues, or poor folds and notify Pressroom as needed. Transfer folded signatures from web press to pallets or skids for transport to warehouse or binding areas. Adjust stacking mechanisms based on paper dimensions. Load and unload materials onto/from pallets, carts, or trays. Transport materials using hand trucks, electric dollies, or other equipment. Count, weigh, and record quantities of materials handled on daily production sheets. Label, tag, or mark containers for identification and tracking. Stack and bundle materials, securing them with banding equipment as required. Operate industrial trucks, hoists, or automated equipment to move or load products. Assist Press Crew with equipment setup (e.g., retrieving/hanging plates, recycling). Perform in-process quality checks to identify print defects like blemishes or scratches. Basic Qualifications:
Education equivalent to 8th grade plus additional coursework or training. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions. Basic math skills: Able to read, copy, and record figures including simple addition and subtraction. Reading skills sufficient to follow simple work instructions and recognize short words and number sequences. Able to speak and understand simple sentences using normal word order and common tenses. Specific vocational preparation of up to 1 month, including on-the-job training. Familiarity with warehouse layouts, item codes, and storage procedures. Ability to stock, move, jog, rotate, unload, and arrange materials under supervision. Capable of using hand tools and material handling equipment like dollies, carts, and banding tools. Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift/carry 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Required to perform constant reaching and reaching upwards throughout the shift. Constant standing, walking, and material handling (e.g., lifting, moving, stacking). Must have constant hand use (handling and fingering); occasional keyboard use and hearing. Requires constant visual acuity (near, far, and depth perception). Working in frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (e.g., dust, humidity). Noise level is loud and vibration is constant due to equipment operation. Requires frequent adaptation to changing tasks and hazard awareness.
