Responsible for performing the physical or administrative tasks supporting the shipping, receiving, storing, and distribution of materials, parts, supplies and equipment, rejecting unsatisfactory items where necessary. Within parameters, determines routing and arrangements for shipments, considering such factors as nature of items being shipped, method of handling, size, urgency, and cost. Consults rate schedule for specific rates depending on method of shipment and/or distance shipped. Assesses most economical and efficient common or contract carrier, to transport shipments. Calculates and records storage, redelivery, and other applicable charges. May reroute urgent shipments of an urgent nature or arrange for special delivery at destination. Prepares and maintains records of products shipped and tracks shipments. Receives incoming materials, unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices. Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials to stated identifications. Maintains records of received goods, processes freight bills, packing sheets, and other documents. Stocks and distributes materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines. Lifts heavy items and may operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, tow motors, forklifts, etc. upon receipt of internal certification. Knowledge of material handling procedures and Environmental Health and Safety requirements. May perform wood shop functions such as operating power saws and nail guns in building skids and crates. Key Responsibilities

Unpack, check, and stock received goods in inventory and on manufacturing lines. Maintain accurate records of received goods, including processing freight bills, packing sheets, and other related documents. Lift heavy items and operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, tow motors, and forklifts upon receipt of internal certification. Consult rate schedules for specific rates based on the method of shipment and distance. Assess and select the most economical and efficient carrier for transporting shipments. Prepare and maintain records of products shipped and track shipments to ensure timely delivery. Calculate and record storage, redelivery, and other applicable charges. Reroute urgent shipments or arrange special deliveries as needed. Stock and distribute materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines. Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure materials are properly stored and easily accessible. Follow material handling procedures and adhere to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements. Operate power saws and nail guns for building skids and crates if necessary. Identify problems and issues in straightforward situations and escalate them to the supervisor for resolution. Work under general supervision with less detailed instructions and moderate peer review. Communicate with contacts within the department to obtain or provide information, requiring explanation or interpretation to reach agreement.
