The J71 Medical Cardiac Step-down Unit is part of Cleveland Clinic's Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute. Since 1995, Cleveland Clinic has been recognized as one of the top hospitals for Cardiology in the country. J71 is one of three Medical Cardiac Stepdown Units that care for the full spectrum of cardiac care. J71/72/73 cares for interventional or PCI patients, those with angina and/or myocardial infarction, heart failure patients and arrhythmia patients needing medical therapy or EPS services, such as temporary or permanent pacemakers and ICD insertion, ablation or cardioversion. Nursing Associate Externs are enrolled in a ten-week program and required to attend classes. Once the program is completed, you may be eligible for a Patient Care Nurse Assistant role. Job Details

As an RN, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, from initial introduction to final send-off. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. Additionally, the Cleveland Clinic system provides nurses with many professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills. A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation, 7:00 am7:30pm or 7:00pm7:30am. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide direct nursing care. Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patients conditions. Note and carry out physician and nursing orders. Assess and coordinate patients discharge needs. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Two years of recent related nursing experience for external applicants OR less than two years of experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period considered with the Chief Nursing Officer approval for internal applicants OR military RN experience Critical Care Course or validated OJT for critical care settings Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Provider Status Certification through American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of hire for NICU ONS Chemo/Bio course within two years of hire in units where chemo is administered Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) in ED and Pediatrics Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon or within 24 months of hire in dedicated Trauma Centers Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
