Per Diem; varied hours/shifts according to operational needs UNIT DESCRIPTION: The Birthplace is a 12-bed, private room, labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum unit that includes a nursery staffed by obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, pediatricians, neonatologists and registered nurses. The Unit also has a 2 bed triage and 6 bed postpartum area. Registered nurses are required to demonstrate competent care of the patient in labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn advanced fetal monitoring, breastfeeding education, neonatal resuscitation certification, advanced life support certification, and the OR scrub and circulating roles. Duties/Responsibilities Assess physical status of patient using age-appropriate knowledge. Plans, evaluates, and supervises care of all patients assigned. Works collaboratively with other disciplines in care of patients. Participates in formal and informal educational programs to improve technical skills. Responsible for continued learning and application to practice. Synthesizes patient care information to formulate appropriate nursing diagnosis. Responsible to provide newborn and family education. Work practice reflects philosophy purpose and policies of the hospital department. Demonstrates knowledge and competence in care of the newborn using appropriate treatments, therapies and clinical interventions. Responds to physical and psychological needs of high-risk mother/baby. Maintains current Neonatal Resuscitation Certification. Demonstrates knowledge of standards of care for mothers and newborns.
