Critical Care Paramedic - AirCare - Full-Time/Part-Time

To provide optimum critical/emergency care to sick or injured patients transported by aircraft or other vehicle to UMMC or other designated facilities. Education & Experience: High school diploma/GED and completion of CAHEA or CAHEP EMT-paramedic program plus three (3) years of related pre-hospital experience. Maximum weight limit of 250 pounds when fully clothed. Individual must be able to lift a patient weighing 250 pounds onto a stretcher and to carry said patient and stretcher for a minimum of fifty (50) feet and load patient and stretcher into a helicopter or other vehicle, with the help of other provider. Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: valid driver's license, certification as NREMTP (National Registered Paramedic) and MS Paramedic and MS Critical Care Paramedic, required. Certifications in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation, NIMS (ICS 100 and 700) and either BTLS or PHTLS or ITLS. Certification in ABLS and ASLS preferred. Certification as a Louisiana NREMTP and Alabama NREMTP preferred. FP-C or CCP-C is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the information and techniques necessary to identify, diagnose and treat injuries and disease for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients. Knowledge of agents, equipment, procedures, and techniques for the provision of emergency and critical care for inter-facility and scene transports. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to provide physical and psychological treatment and comfort. Ability to work calmly under stressful conditions. Ability to withstand exposure to noise, external weather conditions and high altitudes. Responsibilities Provides physical and psychological comfort to patients. Monitors patient condition during transport and adverse reactions to drugs of treatment. Interacts with pre-hospital and hospital personnel to ascertain the details surrounding the patient injuries or illness. Ensures the proper functioning in inventory of communications equipment, medical transport equipment, and supplies. Reports equipment failures. Maintains, sterilizes and cleans transport medical equipment to ensure the safety of patients in accordance with UMMC standards and protocols. Promotes positive image of UMMC by participating in community outreach and education programs. Assists in precepting and orienting colleagues and healthcare students. Ensures regulatory compliance of patient care provided during transport. Prepares and maintains applicable reports and documentation. Evaluates, plans, provides and documents care for patients in the disaster, transport (air/ground), and/or the out of hospital environment. Physical and Environmental Demands: Requires constant exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, constant working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, frequent travelling to offsite locations, constant activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, frequent lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, frequent climbing, frequent crawling, frequent crouching/stooping, frequent driving, frequent kneeling, frequent pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
