Library Page - Stephen A. Schwarzman Building / Picture Collection

Overview

Established in 1987 thanks to a gift from the Wallach family, The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs unites what had formerly been five separate departments under a single banner. Divisional holdings comprise works of art as well as reference materials on painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, and the history of architecture from prehistoric times to the present. Founded in 1915 as a resource for visual researchers, The New York Public Library's Picture Collection provides 1.5 million circulating images clipped from books and magazines across 12,000 subject headings, from clothing and dress to military battles to insects. The collection also features extensive holdings of vintage postcards and greeting cards, and around 150,000 non-circulating reference images from the early 1900s and prior. The Picture Collection's unique arrangement of items by subject makes it useful to researchers in many creative fields, including artists; documentary filmmakers; set, prop, and costume makers for stage and film; graphic novel writers; and fashion designers. Unlike the collections in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building that are reserved for on-site use, this circulating collection allows researchers to borrow its pictures. Reporting to the Supervising Librarian, the page's primary duties are to assist with the sorting and filing of Picture Collection pictures and folders. Additionally, the page will assist with data entry and collection material maintenance as needed. As a page, you will assist in the upkeep and service of this division. You will be held to the standards that have been maintained throughout the years

The library page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays. Schedules are variable based on library needs and may be subject to change

You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship.
