Patient Account Specialist

The Patient Account Specialist duties include but are not limited to; inquiry management through phone, email, and online interactions with patients, healthcare teams, sales, and several internal teams. The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for investigating inquiries to determine an appropriate course of action to solve, triage or escalate the inquiry in question. This includes research, utilizing publicly available and company provided resources and systems, conducting thorough patient account review(s), and performing the necessary tasks or actions ensuring a timely and effective first-time resolution. The Patient Account Specialist communicates directly with patients, healthcare teams, sales, and insurance companies as well as collaborating cross-functionally with other Cardiology Healthcare teams to achieve inquiry resolution. What You'll Do:
Quickly establish rapport over the phone while exuding a positive upbeat attitude Investigate and validate payer coverage policies and requirements as needed. Responsible for inquiry management providing timely and accurate resolution of requests or complaints received. Utilization of multiple platforms and systems, in an efficient manner allowing prompt investigation and identification of the root cause of the issue, while providing accurate first-time resolution that is in alignment with our AR Days as denied by Departmental KPIs. Review patient accounts quickly and accurately assessing and identifying customer needs to determine appropriate course of action as defined by Baxter policies and guidelines. Ensure accuracy of patient information on file to establish timely and accurate claims processing, promptly identifying and solving all claim errors that result in delayed adjudication. Identify payer trends and establish payer-specific strategies to overcome reimbursement challenges. Establish and maintain positive partnerships with sales, and other internal and external Cardiology Healthcare teams. Provide effective and superior customer service by leveraging the ability to discuss payer policies, coverage criterion, or any pertinent plan or product information with patients, sales team, and other internal and external Cardiology Healthcare teams. Consistently meets productivity standards while understanding how they support greater organizational goals. Actively seek additional experience and knowledge across all functional areas to gain expertise. Provide workload coverage as needed. Understand and adhere to all policies established by Baxter and third-party payers to ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. What You'll Bring:
High diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or higher or 2-3 years of healthcare related experience in revenue cycle, with specialized focus around eligibility and benefit verification, authorizations, claims submission and denial management. Cardiology related experience, a plus. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations, guidelines, and standards, including a working knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations. CPT and ICD-10 coding experience. Third-party payer experience. Experience with medical record reviews to identify and ensure medical necessity. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software. Strong critical thinking and effective problem-solving skills. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communications. Excellent customer service skills. The ability to deescalate conflict effectively while maintaining a high-level of professionalism, strongly preferred. The ability to manage time and prioritize critical priorities. The ability to work independently and in a team environment strongly preferred. Detail orientated and ability to multi-task.
