Postdoctoral Researcher At Argonne National Laboratory

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of advanced scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM) methods for cutting-edge scientific research in areas such as quantum materials and low-dimensional energy systems. This position emphasizes automation, high-throughput data acquisition, and real-time data processing, offering a unique opportunity to advance S/TEM capabilities, publish impactful research, and collaborate with a diverse group of scientists both within and beyond CNM. Key Responsibilities Develop and apply advanced S/TEM techniques, focusing on atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy (EELS/EDS) Implement automation and high-throughput workflows for data acquisition and analysis Contribute to on-the-fly data processing and integration with computational tools Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in nanofabrication, instrumentation, modeling, and data science Position Requirements Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (within the last 0-5 years) in field(s) of materials science, physics, computational science, or a related field Strong background in scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM), particularly atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy techniques (EELS/EDS) Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar, with experience in data-driven workflows and computer vision Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications Highly collaborative, innovative, and capable of working independently in a multidisciplinary research environment Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork Preferred Skills Familiarity with multi-modal AI/ML model development Experience with 2D materials, defect characterization, or in situ/operando microscope The expected hiring range for this position is $70,758.00-$117,925.00. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
