The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation. Produce assigned renderings that meet PETCO's prototype standards and merchandise category requirements for new, remodel, and acquisition stores in accordance with schedule deadlines using 3D Studio Max. Work with multiple cross-functional teams to incorporate their store-specific recommendations into the store design (visual, brand, fixture teams). Ensure renderings are designed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (ADA, fire, basic construction codes, etc.). Analyze layouts for potential problems in store plans and develop recommendations for resolution. Verify scopes and adhere to budget constraints for remodels and small project stores. Create revisions to preliminary renderings as necessary to get approval from internal stakeholders and distribute to them Prepare and present prototypical renderings or concepts to the department supervisor and/or manager. Prepare visual presentations to be shared with the Executive team. Incorporate changes from Construction Documents into renderings prepared by Architects (25%, 98%) to ensure they meet design intent. Coordinate any revisions and/or addenda. Work directly with internal and external stakeholders to understand site-specific requirements and limitations. Be prepared to field any and all store-specific design questions. Maintain department prototype renderings for all formats and update quarterly as required. Provide operational expertise regarding design and cost/labor efficiencies to lower-level associates on store design concepts and design projects to ensure profit margin goals are met. Perform store design duties that are complex in nature, to include sales analysis, specialty fixture design, new and remodel store designs, prototype designs, cost analysis, budgeting, and Inventory Management. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work effectively with a cross-functional team. Provide assistance and problem resolution to Operations Coordinators, Construction Project Managers and General Contractors to ensure accuracy of design and company standards. Partner with all positions in Store Design to support initiatives across the department as dictated by business needs. Attend and actively participate in meetings with store operations, merchandising, marketing, construction and real estate; helping to insure schedule/budgets are met. Decision Support

Using creativity, analytical and project management skills, plan, develop and determine appropriate course of action for all assigned store planning projects. Partner with appropriate internal stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and consistent approach is taken towards business strategies and/or imperatives. Assist the store planning group with making sound business decisions, both strategic and tactical in nature. Challenge the status quo

must be analytically inclined and have a passion for finding those causal factors that can constrain performance and profits. Is able to drive for and deliver process improvements. Exceptional analytical skills are required as well as the diligence to take action based on findings. Must possess analytical and financial literacy aimed at ensuring our business intensions generate sustainable returns on investment. Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests. Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks to meet established project deadlines. Travel to store locations as necessary. Perform special projects as assigned. Nature of Supervision

It is the responsibility of the senior to solely own and manage their workload per the design schedule. General direction is provided on tasks to be performed, but store design concepts should be understood and implemented using independent discretion and in in accordance with PETCO's design standards. Incumbent has access to and regularly works with all of PETCO's intellectual assets, such as projected and actual sales information and is also responsible for and uses information for future planning, such as strategies, designs, new product placement, new fixtures and new stores. Planning and Problem Solving

Because competing priorities consistently exist in this role, the incumbent must be able to plan out time and workload accordingly. The incumbent is often given general requests or suggestions for store layout and/or merchandise allocation by business partners and must not only be able to solve for the appropriate solution but also must be able to determine the overall approach that will best suit the request and result in the greatest benefit to the organization. Impact

The incumbent drives sales and profits by enhancing the customer shopping experience through captivating store design for all stores. The incumbent improves the efficiency of the organization by utilizing design standards and best practices, allowing more time for business partners to focus on activities that will drive the bottom line. Supervisory Responsibility

Although no direct subordinates are assigned, the Store Designer will coordinate the efforts of others in such departments as Merchandising, Advertising, Inventory Management and Expense Management in order to ensure the timely remodel or opening of PETCO stores. Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design or Architecture is preferred. Solid understanding of store design principles and retail operations are necessary. Minimum 5-10 years of experience in design related field. Working knowledge of AutoCad, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc. is required. The ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, exercise patience and diplomacy in all situations is necessary. Excellent trouble-shooting and problem solving skills as well as strong creative merchandising skills required. Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
