Summary

Illinois Central College is seeking adjunct faculty in Dental Hygienist Program to teach preclinic, clinic, lab and theory courses during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Teaching may occur during day, afternoon and evening. If courses are available, adjuncts may continue to teach future semesters. The adjunct faculty are primarily responsible for teaching assigned courses, while maintaining programmatic and accreditation standards. Adjunct faculty must adhere to instructional syllabi, support student success, and maintain access for students during office hours. Maximum assignment may be up to 12 contact hours for fall and spring semesters, and if also teaching summer, contact hours must be maintained at or below 29 for the academic year.

Essential Function

1. Maintain highest possible standards of the Dental Hygienist Program.

2. Facilitate teaching and learning opportunities, while ensuring all necessary materials and tools are readily available and safety standards are met. 3. Adhere to course syllabi for assigned courses and communicate expectations to ensure student success. 4. Maintain office hours and availability for students. 5. Collaborate effectively with program faculty and agency staff to continuously improve and adapt the student learning experience. 6. Document, review, analyze, and report student clinical assessment results for the program assessment plan.

7. Seek professional development to remain current within respiratory education, workforce trends, and emerging technology.

8. Maintain skills through professional development, continuing education, and scholarly activities appropriate to higher education and professional discipline.

9. Actively serve on college, department, and program committees as appropriate.

10. Support college-wide initiatives and actively participates in program and organizational meetings.

11. Perform assigned responsibilities during the day, evening and/or weekend on any campus or clinical facility.

12. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

1. Dentist or Dental Hygienist must be graduate of program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. 2. Bachelor's Degree in education, training and development, management or other directly related discipline to teach a theory course. 3. Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene to teach in clinic and some laboratory sections.

4. Current Illinois license as a dental hygienist or dentist. 5. Current CPR/AED certification.

6. Minimum of two (2) years full-time clinical experience as a registered dental hygienist or dentist.

7. Proficient in clinical skills, digital radiography, use of electronic records systems, and willing to develop new and/or enhance emerging clinical skills.

8. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 9. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 10. Strong analyzing and problem-solving skills. 11. Strong organizing and prioritizing skills to meet critical deadlines. 12. Strong multi-tasking and decision-making skills. 13. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's or Doctoral degree in related field. 2. Certification in Local Anesthesia.

3. Membership and participation in state and national professional organizations. 4. Five (5) or more years of clinical experience as a registered dental hygienist or dentist. 5. Experience as an instructor in a dental hygiene program. 6. Experience teaching at a community college. 7. Experience serving the needs of a diverse student population.
