Bindery Operator 4

The Bindery Operator 4 is responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting a variety of auxiliary and automatic bindery equipment to produce finished books, catalogs, manuals, and similar products. Equipment may include inkjet and mailing devices, folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines, and adhesive (perfect) binders with integrated process stations. This role involves coordinating multiple workstations on a single machine, inspecting equipment for safety, making necessary adjustments to ensure efficient operation, and directing a crew through all aspects of production. The operator monitors quality, output, and productivity while ensuring the final product meets specifications. Tasks may also include processes such as vibrating, milling, gluing, roughening, stacking, and trimming. Duties/Responsibilities:

Set up, operate, and adjust a variety of auxiliary and automatic bindery machines, including folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and binding/gluing equipment. Operate adhesive (perfect) binding machines with multiple integrated stations for functions such as milling, roughening, gluing, and stacking. Ensure proper coordination of multiple workstations on a single machine to maintain efficient workflow. Inspect and monitor equipment for safety and performance; make necessary adjustments as needed. Oversee and direct crew members throughout all stages of the bindery and finishing process. Monitor quality, productivity, and output to ensure finished products meet the required specifications. Handle printed sheets and transform them into completed books, catalogs, manuals, or directories. Collaborate with maintenance or support teams when troubleshooting equipment or production issues. Basic Qualifications:

Education equivalent to at least 8th grade plus additional vocational or technical training. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions and solve problems in standardized situations. Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. Reading and language skills sufficient to follow work instructions, read equipment manuals, and communicate clearly using written and spoken language. Over 4 years and up to 10 years of relevant vocational experience in bindery operations or similar mechanical/production environments. Constant use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required due to the nature of the work environment. Physical Requirements

Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Frequent reaching, handling, and fingering required. Occasional crouching, stooping, talking, and hearing. Frequent use of near vision & depth perception. Standing and walking throughout the shift. Must tolerate loud noise levels in the work environment.
