VACANCY : The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a High School Soccer Head Coach - Girls position at Bolingbrook High School.
REPORTS TO: Building Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
JOB SUMMARY : Responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The student shall also receive instruction that fosters personal accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
Essential Functions
- Has thorough knowledge of district, IHSA, IESA, state, and league regulations and implements them consistently.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or concerns through proper channels.
- Presents timely and valid information concerning schedules, tournaments, results, and statistics to the Assistant Principal or Athletic Director, as required.
- Promotes the athletic program for which they are coaching.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of content and sport.
- Assesses skill and ability of athletes, considering their age and skill level.
- Demonstrates knowledge of resources for coaches.
- Creates a respectful and rapport-building team environment.
- Establishes a culture of learning, emphasizing skill development, effort, and achievement.
- Monitors student-athlete behavior both in and out of season.
- Coordinates practice space and schedules with the Athletic Director or Assistant Principal.
- Communicates expectations and procedures clearly to players, parents, and the Athletic Office.
- Designs effective practices and game strategies, engaging all athletes.
- Provides clear instructions and positive feedback.
- Adjusts practices flexibly based on athletes’ needs.
- Maintains accurate records of awards, wins/losses, and statistics.
- Reflects on coaching performance and pursues professional development through clinics.
- Supervises uniforms, equipment, and transportation.
- Builds team morale and rapport.
- Instructs and corrects students constructively, using PBIS strategies.
- Prepares teams for contests with strategic game plans.
- Possesses basic first aid knowledge for injury treatment and rehabilitation.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and professionalism.
- Attends meetings and coaching clinics, stays informed on current literature.
- Collaborates with school and district administration for program improvement.
- Promotes the sport and games to the media (High School level).
- Other duties as assigned in line with this stipend classification.
Qualifications
- Must be a certified teacher or hold a bachelor’s degree and have completed an IHSA or IESA-approved coach training program (e.g., ASEP).
- Must hold current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Knowledge of the sport.
- Previous coaching experience preferred.
- Negative TB test required.
Work Environment & Physical Activity : Work involves outdoor and indoor environments, including exposure to weather conditions. Physical activity aligns with sport-specific requirements.
Employment Conditions : Subject to the AFT Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employment outside coaching or with Valley View School District is preferred.
