General Overview
As a Central Processing Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring all medical instruments and equipment are properly maintained. Your responsibilities will include cleaning, distributing, and storing essential medical tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleans, disinfects, decontaminates, and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment using appropriate methods and substances. (30%)
- Receives, stocks, packages, and distributes medical instruments and equipment efficiently. (30%)
- Conducts quality assurance testing, documents inspections, and manages inventory and reordering of supplies. (30%)
- Ensures safe disposal of biohazardous substances, chemicals, medical waste, and unusable equipment. (10%)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- For new Central Service Technicians hired after December 29, 2020:
- Complete a nationally accredited central service exam within 18 months of hire date.
- Obtain one of the following certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous sterile processing or hospital experience.
- Enrollment in a surgical tech or sterile processing program.
