What You'll Do...
As a Microbiologist supporting our client, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you will design and execute experiments aimed at evaluating and enhancing immune protection against influenza viruses. Your work will directly contribute to the development of novel influenza vaccines and a deeper understanding of immune protection mechanisms through both in vitro and in vivo models.
Key Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes

  • Advance Influenza Vaccine Development - Design and conduct experiments to evaluate and improve immune protection against influenza viruses using in vitro and in vivo models.
  • Support Animal Model Programs - Execute and assist with animal handling, including anesthesia, injections, virus infections, and sample collection in support of vaccine evaluation studies.
  • Contribute to Molecular & Cellular Analysis - Perform virus preparation, hybridoma maintenance, RT-PCR, and sequencing, contributing to comprehensive virological assessments.
  • Enhance Data Quality & Documentation - Maintain meticulous laboratory records and support quality management practices, including ordering and inventory tracking in alignment with CDC procedures.
  • Collaborate Across Teams - Provide scientific and technical support for internal and cross-functional teams engaged in influenza research, ensuring seamless coordination and resource sharing.

  • Applies understanding of in vivo research techniques, including animal handling, anesthesia, and sample collection, in compliance with established protocols.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining and working with cultured cell lines, including hybridomas.
  • Applies molecular biology techniques such as RT-PCR, sequencing, and molecular cloning in experimental workflows.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in software tools such as MS Office, GraphPad Prism, FluLIMS, and Geneious or similar platforms used in molecular biology.
  • Understands and follows CDC laboratory procedures, including inventory management, documentation standards, and ordering processes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with influenza virus techniques, in vivo animal models, and immune assay development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in a CDC or similar regulatory environment, including familiarity with FluLIMS and CDC ordering procedures.
Work Environment
  • Environment: Work will be performed in a climate-controlled laboratory environment at the CDC Roybal Campus in Atlanta, Georgia
