QUALIFICATIONS
Receive Medical Assistant certification within 15 months of hire (1 year experience + 3 months certification window); one (1) year previous medical office experience; one (1) year patient care experience; positive, cheerful attitude; team player; one who works well with others and who is a self-starter, flexible, compassionate, and caring individual; Knowledge of proper telephone techniques; pleasant telephone voice and correct grammar usage; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Knowledge of Medical Terminology; must have a working knowledge of numbers, measurements and medication calculation; Accuracy in documentation; able to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information; Professional appearance; participate and promote teamwork, be courteous to co-workers, patient/family members, physicians and residents; Continuing education recommended in order to pursue Medical Assistant Certification.
Preferred : Medical terminology; CMA Certification.

Medium physical/mental demand capabilities. Must be able to work independently as well as with physicians, healthcare providers, patients/families and other co-workers courteously. Must be able to prioritize work demands and organize time efficiently. Must be clear thinking. Able to work with time constraints under stressful situations and while performing multiple tasks. Must be able to handle many telephone lines, walk/maneuver frequently in and around the clinic building and stand for long periods of time. Must possess excellent problem-solving skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs clerical and transcribing (scribe) duties for the MD that are necessary to assure the efficient operation and record keeping of the department.
- Process and prepare the patient for clinic visit and procedures by the physician, in a timely manner.
- Obtain patient vitals and prep patients for physician examinations and patient visits.
- Assists the Medical Oncologist with patient examinations and procedures as appropriate, i.e. transcribing orders, bone marrows, skin biopsies, and instructs patients regarding procedures.
- Completes insurance and disability forms as needed and assists MD's and RN's with forms as needed.
- Call pharmacies with approved new/refill prescriptions.
- Accurately administer injections, immunizations and/or medications, under the direction of the medical provider.
- Receives, triages, directs, and returns patient phone calls.
- Lab Results: Print lab report, print patient results, and obtain chart for physician review.
- Order and restock examination rooms with medical supplies. Remove hemoccult cards.
- Schedule appointments for patient procedures, examinations and outside referrals as needed.
- Accurately document all information pertaining to MA/CMA duties in patient chart/in computer system.
- Accurately scan patient information.
- Obtain pertinent information, lab results, diagnosis codes and chart for physician review.
- Maintain competency in all position responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
