Position Summary
Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, the Director, Group Controller will be a key member of the Controllership Senior Leadership Team. They will be responsible for leading and administering the global Group Controllership function at IDEX. This position will be hybrid, with remote working on Mondays and Fridays and office working (at the Chicago office) Tuesday through Thursday.
The Group Controllership function supports IDEX Corporation business units with regard to all controllership and accounting-related matters. This function is expected to design and execute monitoring procedures and champion process improvement projects in order to scale up the overall financial reporting process at IDEX. Group Controllership will also build relationships with key personnel across the business and share best practices by providing technical guidance and sharing knowledge and expertise.
This a player / coach role whereby this individual will be responsible for a collection of business units while at the same time providing overall leadership to the Group Controllers and staff within the function.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Define and set strategy for the global Group Controllership function
Assess financial reporting risk across the enterprise and allocate resources to proactively address potential issues
Direct and execute various monitoring controls, such as balance sheet reviews, detailed account reconciliation reviews, financial statement trend analyses, at select business units based on the assessed level of risk
Challenge past practices in order to continuously improve and scale up the financial reporting process across the organization
Provide technical US GAAP guidance and support, including maintaining IDEX’s global finance policies and procedures. Common areas of support include revenue recognition, inventory valuation, lease accounting, and local statutory to US GAAP reconciliations
Identify and execute large scale process improvement initiatives, impacting multiple, if not all business units, as well as the corporate office
Lead several company-wide training and knowledge sharing courses on various hot topics impacting financial reporting
Establish and lead the Controllership Council and Peer Review processes
Design and implement scalable sub-consolidation-level financial statement analytics in order for the Group Controllership function to develop an informed opinion on business results
Assist with the integration of new acquisitions to IDEX’s financial reporting framework and suite of internal controls
Build relationships with key personnel at corporate and the business units in order to evaluate and identify emerging talent. Help address shortfalls and strategize with Group Finance leadership regarding succession planning and bubble assignment opportunities
Work closely with the Internal and External Audit functions to ensure procedures are continuously improving and meet current and future requirements
Lead, mentor, and develop Group Controllers and staff, including designing fulfilling roles and providing challenging opportunities that enable further career growth
Support open positions in business units through bubble assignments as capacity allows
Serve as coach, mentor, and trusted advisor to business unit finance teams
Travel to business units as necessary to successfully execute aforementioned items
Experience
15 years of progressive accounting and controllership experience
Prefer at least 5 years in public accounting Manufacturing / inventory experience required Experience in several different Corporate and business unit accounting roles a plus
