A Day in the Life of a CRMG Surgical First AssistUnder direct guidance and or supervision of the primary operative surgeon, assists in the perioperative care of patients, in surgery, and perform duties as assigned. Assists in patient positioning and preparation, including urinary catheter placement, placement of pneumatic tourniquet, and prepping of the surgical site; drape patient within surgeon's guidelines. Assists in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure, use and application of appropriate surgical instruments for the task, placement of ties and suture ligatures, application of chemical hemostatic agents, or other measures as directed by the surgeon. Assists in retracting tissues, use of electrocautery both monopolar and bipolar, clamp, ligation and cutting of tissue, per surgeon's directive. Assists in placement and suturing of surgical drains and closure of all wound layers (fascia, subcutaneous and skin) as per surgeon's directive. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique in relation to the procedure and the operating field. Performs any other duties or procedures incident to the surgical procedure deemed necessary and as directed by the surgeon. Maintains and updates knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and company/ hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position. Takes call after assigned working hours to assist attending surgeons in urgent or emergency surgical procedures. Desired Skills:Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Proficient with MS Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Demonstrates an independent work initiative, sound judgment and attention to detail Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practice Ability to gown and glove self-using open or closed gloving technique Here is What You Need:Graduate of an accredited surgical assisting programCST, CNOR, or PA C, with current certification14 Days: Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within fourteen (14) calendar days of start dateNice to Have:Bachelor of Science degree (or higher)Associate degree in an allied health field, with 3 years of recent experienceCertified Surgical Technologist/Certified First Assistant (CST/CFA), Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR), or Certified Physician's Assistant (PA-C), with current certificationThree years of current operating room scrub and/or assisting experience within the last 5 yearsMilitary medical training with surgical assistant experienceAbout Cheyenne Regional:Cheyenne Regional Medical Center was founded in 1867 as a tent hospital by the Union Pacific Railroad to treat workers injured while building the transcontinental railroad.
