Founding Engineer @Endurance Energy | Renewable Energy Innovator | PhD in Thermofluids
Endurance is developing modular seafloor geothermal power plants that harness the vast thermal energy beneath the ocean floor to provide gigawatts of clean, reliable energy. We're addressing the critical power bottleneck facing AI infrastructure development while creating a path toward energy independence and decarbonization across the globe. Backed by premier venture capital firms including First Round Capital and Point72 Ventures, our exceptional founding team includes veterans from SpaceX (Dragon and Starship programs) and Neuralink, with specialized expertise in complex thermal and fluid systems. We're seeking a hands-on Test Engineer to join our team at our headquarters in Seattle, where you'll lead the validation and testing of our revolutionary seafloor power generation systems. The Role As a Test Engineer at Endurance, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and executing comprehensive test programs that validate the performance, reliability, and safety of our subsea geothermal power systems. You'll work with cutting-edge thermal and mechanical systems, developing test methodologies that push the boundaries of what's possible in extreme marine environments. This role demands both technical rigor and the scrappy, hands-on mentality essential to an early-stage startup revolutionizing clean energy. You'll play a critical role in our upcoming 100kWe compact power cycle testing program, establishing the test infrastructure and protocols that will validate our core technology before subsea deployment. Your work will directly impact our ability to demonstrate system reliability to customers and investors while ensuring safe operation in the world's most challenging environments. Key Responsibilities Design and build test rigs for thermal power generation systems, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and safety systems Develop and execute test plans for turbomachinery, heat exchangers, pumps, condensers, and integrated power cycles under various operating conditions Lead validation testing of 100kW+ scale thermodynamic systems, including performance mapping, endurance testing, and failure mode identification Create and maintain test procedures, safety protocols, and documentation for complex thermal systems operating at high temperatures and pressures Instrument and operate test rigs for component-level and system-level validation, including transient response and steady-state performance characterization Collaborate with engineering teams to translate design requirements into testable specifications and acceptance criteria Analyze test data to identify performance trends, optimization opportunities, and potential reliability issues Support field testing operations including sea trials and deployment validation Establish scalable testing methodologies and infrastructure to support rapid product development cycles Mentor junior engineers and technicians in safe test operations and best practices Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, or related technical discipline 4+ years of hands-on experience testing mechanical systems, thermal systems, or power generation equipment Proven track record designing and building test rigs from concept through operation Experience with high-temperature, high-pressure systems and associated safety protocols Strong background in instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and test automation Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment with minimal oversight Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail Strong communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration Preferred Skills Experience testing turbomachinery (pumps, compressors, turbines) or rotating equipment Background in power generation systems, marine systems, or geothermal energy applications Proficiency with LabVIEW, Python, or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis Experience with pressure vessels, piping systems, and mechanical codes (ASME, API) Familiarity with thermal cycling, fatigue testing, and reliability validation methodologies Hands-on experience with welding, machining, and mechanical assembly Knowledge of supercritical fluids, two-phase flow, or advanced heat transfer systems Experience with remote monitoring and control systems for unmanned operations Global Fieldwork : Travel to fascinating deployment sites along oceanic ridges in locations like the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores Hands-on Experience : Participate in sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions Cutting-Edge Development : Work with technology that spans high-power electronics, marine systems, and clean energy Impact-Driven Work : Help solve one of the world's most pressing challenges - clean, reliable power generation Competitive Compensation : Comprehensive salary and equity packages Benefits : Vision, Dental, Health insurance coverage Dive Certification : Company-sponsored recreational dive certification PTO : Unlimited (with advanced notice) Endurance is an equal opportunity employer.
