Equality Michigan is excited to announce that we are hiring for the position of statewide Director of Movement Building. ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Established in 1991 as the Triangle Foundation, Equality Michigan has been working for over 30 years to achieve full equality and respect for all Michigan residents regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Michigan’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people are working to achieve basic fairness and equality in our state. We want to live in safe communities, take care of our families, and contribute to our social, cultural, political, and economic lives and wellbeing. Equality Michigan serves as Michigan’s premiere statewide advocacy organization working toward the achievement of these goals. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Movement Building is an at-will position and reports to the Senior Director of Movement Building & Political Affairs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working or leading candidate campaigns, 501(c)(4) issue-based community organizing, and/or 501(c)(3) public education, encompassing a range of skills including fundraising, communications, project management, and volunteer engagement. They will have a proven ability to build strong organizational partnerships, build trust with existing and prospective stakeholders, grow and mobilize a volunteer base, and execute successful, metric-driven programs that build our organization’s supporter list and volunteer base in the region. They will be committed to operating in a fast-paced environment, be able to work independently, and have a passion for building strong movements. This position offers opportunities to build and implement large-scale grassroots and vended programs while also building long-term organizational capacity through meeting urgent community needs, spending significant amounts of time in the field, and operating with a higher-than-normal level of ambiguity. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of state and local LGBTQ+ issues and policies, robust experience recruiting, engaging, and developing a volunteer base, have an advanced level of comfort with campaign technology, analyzing and processing data, and have extensive experience building strategic, layered campaign plans. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: CAMPAIGN STRATEGY AND MANAGEMENT Develop a statewide, metrics-driven voter engagement campaign plan that encompasses a multi-tiered approach, utilizing both grassroots and vended programs Work closely with, receive regular feedback from, and provide real-time guidance to regional campaign managers, vended campaign staff, and others to ensure maximally effective execution of voter engagement campaigns VOLUNTEER ORGANIZING AND ENGAGEMENT Work with external partners to create meaningful volunteer engagement and development opportunities that mobilize around local and state legislative issues, voter-engagement, storytelling, and various others forms of personal and collective advocacy Develop training materials that help educate the public and our supporters on local and state legislative issues, as well as the importance and methods of being engaged, organizing, and mobilizing Be the point-person on enhancing partnerships with organically created advocacy groups of trans people and parents of trans young people, with the aim of expanding the groups reach and impact LEGISLATIVE AND ISSUE ADVOCACY Understand existing local/regional LGBTQ-inclusive policies and anti-LGBTQ+ policies that have been enacted, introduced, or are arising issues Develop relationships with elected officials in your region at both a state and local level TECHNOLOGY AND DATA Track advocacy and outreach metrics statewide and be able to speak quantitatively and qualitatively to results and efforts Use software and platforms, specifically tools like Excel/Sheets, and VAN, EveryAction, and Mobilize to enhance organizational execution and create increased reporting capabilities COMMUNICATIONS Meet regularly with the communications team to discuss the development of social media posts and campaigns Regularly communicate with stakeholders about opportunities, urgent issues, and other information QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have robust experience in campaign strategy and execution, creating and managing large scale project from scratch, have a track-record in producing measured results, and have strong time, project, and people management skills, and possess the following: Knowledge, passion, and commitment to addressing issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community as well as advancing equality and social justice through education and voter-engagement At least 5 years’ worth of either candidate campaign or 501(c)(4) issue-based advocacy experience, preferably with at least one cycle in a director (or commensurate role) Ability to assist in planning and executing goal-oriented campaigns Experience developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders A proven track record of leading a diverse and engaged volunteer-base Excellent time management with the ability to manage multiple projects at once while maintaining an understanding of the overall vision Experience analyzing and utilizing data, including comprehensive understanding of VAN Proficiency with G-suite and Office products Experience operating with fiscal responsibility Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Reliable access to transportation across the state COMPENSATION:

Annualized Compensation is $73,000 - $82,000 based on experience. The benefits package includes health, dental and vision coverage, retirement savings program, paid time off, phone and internet stipends, and reimbursements for business-related travel. LOCATION:

Remote position based in either the Grand Rapids area or Metro Detroit. Candidates must be able to work from a home-based office and be able to travel around the state, with occasional travel out of state for certain conferences and events. REPORTS TO:
