Inspector, Outside Plant Engineering

Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced, personable, outgoing Outside Plant Construction Inspector to join our team. An OSP Inspector will be responsible for monitoring and overseeing all aspects of outside plant construction activities, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and regulations. This role requires strong knowledge and understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, aerial and underground lines, and associated equipment. They will also be communicating and building awareness with customers regarding the construction projects and availability of services. Responsibilities: Conduct on-site inspections and monitor outside plant construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and jurisdictional regulations. Interpret and review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical documents to verify accuracy and suitability for construction and installation. Collaborate with construction contractors, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely completion of projects. Connecting with existing and potential customers, answering their questions, managing customer complaints, and gathering information for the sales team. Inspect and evaluate the quality of materials, equipment, and workmanship to ensure compliance with industry standards and job specifications. Maintain accurate and detailed records of construction activities, including daily progress reports, inspection logs, as-built drawings, and photographic documentation. Identify and address any deviations, deficiencies, individual performance, or safety issues during construction to ensure timely resolution. Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols and regulations, conduct regular safety audits, and providing recommendations to mitigate potential hazards. Conduct final inspections and perform acceptance testing to ensure the functionality and quality of completed outside plant construction projects. Stay updated with industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies related to outside plant construction, and incorporate them into inspection processes, as necessary. Assist in the development and implementation of construction guidelines, procedures, and policies to improve operational efficiency and maintain consistency across projects. Performs all other related duties as assigned including fieldwork. Education and Experience: Experience in Outside Plant Construction, preferably within the telecommunications industry. Degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent experience is preferred. Knowledge of outside plant construction principles, practices, and techniques, including fiber optic cables, aerial and underground lines, and equipment placement. Working knowledge of construction drawings, plans, and specifications. Skill in reading and interpreting technical documents and forms including purchase orders, invoices, expense reports, time reports, material requisition forms, work orders, trouble tickets, and service orders. Familiarity with construction and safety regulations, including OSHA guidelines and environmental requirements, and Zirrus’ policies and procedures. Knowledge of company products and services. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with different stakeholders. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and sound decision-making. Ability to work independently and manage multiple construction projects simultaneously, adhering to tight deadlines. Ability to use construction management software and applications for inspections and record-keeping. Willingness to travel and work in various outdoor environments, including remote locations or adverse weather conditions, as necessary.
