Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems provides an excellent opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer - Software Systems Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, located in Huntsville, AL, plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control designated networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission goals.

C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to enhance overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a critical component of all ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

This position is for a Software Systems Engineer on the C2BMC program. A Systems Engineer can fill this position with background/experience in Software Development, or A Software Engineer with Systems Engineering experience/training and a desire to support the Systems Engineering V for the Software Development Team.

Essential Functions:

Will be responsible for software systems engineering products for their Scrum Team, including developing software products

Responsible for conducting thorough analysis and providing technical support for systems software products, including:

Complex Problem Resolution

? Design

? Development

? Testing

? Operational Integration

? User Support

Systems engineering support for the team that maintains, debugs, and configures related software products

Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications

Assists with designing, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documenting programs

Collaborates with the SEIT organization to decompose system requirements into manageable software-level requirements

Works with the SEIT organization to drive system use cases, concepts of operations (

conops

), and sequences

Coordinates with the SEIT organization to develop or update the system's external interfaces:

Author or assist with proposals

Provide software design

Software product level use cases, sequences

Create and maintain software design

Algorithm Design Documents

Functional Design Documents

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 1 years of experience.

Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued

Secret

security clearance at the time of application and is required to start.

Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs

A current DoD 8140 certification at

IAT Level II or higher

(Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is required to start

Required technical skills include:

Use of common software development and management tools such as:

Git

Nexus

JIRA

Confluence

Maven or Gradle

Eclipse

Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts like

Use Cases

and

SysML diagrams

Demonstrated experience working on extensive multi-site software development efforts, including external interface development

Demonstrated experience conducting or leading Analysis of Alternatives, Trade Studies, and/or Design Evaluations

Deep understanding of systems engineering processes and principles

Proven success in applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions

Experience collaborating in integrated teams with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to create solutions

Experience developing systems engineering artifacts such as specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, and more

Candidates should have experience working on large, complex systems

Software development experience in creating applications

Working knowledge of system engineering artifacts like specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, and others

Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions

Experience with developing large, complex systems

Experience designing large command and control and/or weapon systems

Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and MBSE tools

Applicants should have a good working knowledge of MS Office products

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's Degree

in Systems Engineering is highly preferred

Certification:

INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification

Certification:

Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)

Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks are highly desirable

Command and control system application development

Automated test and pipeline development experience is highly desired

Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms

Experience with Software Integration testing, including developing automated test scripts

Strong problem-solving skills

Experience with performance modeling

Experience with building management tools and pipelines

Prior C2BMC experience

Experience working within an Agile development environment, domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense

Experience with Systems Analysis:

Virtualization

Containerization and Cloud Computing principles

Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
