Amazon is on the lookout for an innovative Application Engineer with expertise in the physical stores checkout domain to join our Checkout Engineering team. This exciting role emphasizes key checkout applications, including point-of-sale (POS) and self-checkout (SCO), and involves enhancing and integrating these systems within our Whole Foods Market stores.
As a vital component of our team, you will drive the implementation of robust, scalable solutions and significantly shape the development of our checkout systems. Your contributions will be essential in determining how we deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct gap analyses on our checkout system configurations and development modifications.
Develop tools and services to support checkout operations.
Create design specifications for feature enhancements and integration points within POS systems.
Build effective monitoring solutions for issue detection and escalation.
Implement automated alerting systems through transaction log analysis.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs align with business requirements.
A Typical Day:
In this role, you will focus on enhancing operational excellence through our SAFe framework. You’ll manage a prioritized backlog of features that boost system performance and reliability. Engaging in daily support for critical POS functions, you will also partake in SAFe ceremonies and contribute to technical and architectural discussions. Your expertise will help to translate stakeholder needs into cutting-edge technical solutions that advance our global retail operations.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to create queries against relational or NoSQL data stores for troubleshooting and reporting.
Experience in large-scale distributed systems, especially payment systems or POS.
Design and implement monitoring and alert systems for critical business applications.
Strong root cause analysis and complex problem-solving skills.
Interact with business customers to document processes and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with checkout systems such as POS and SCO.
Proficiency in at least one software programming language.
Understanding of retail and grocery technology ecosystems.
Knowledge of payment security standards and compliance (e.g., PCI DSS).
