The Detect & Respond (XDR) pillar is dedicated to minimizing damage from unauthorized access or misuse of Meta's systems and data. Our focus is on both external cyber threats and internal abuses.
Surface Coverage (SC)
is one of four sub-pillars within XDR, with the goal of detecting 100% of known critical threats across Meta’s business-critical surfaces. The SC Software Engineering team works to create advanced Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) agents and response tools, providing telemetry, prevention, detection, and response capabilities across diverse environments. We are dedicated to developing efficient, scalable, and innovative solutions that enable effective monitoring of system activity, quick alert processing, and incident remediation. We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to guide a team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining essential security infrastructure as part of Meta's next growth and innovation phase. This unique position offers the chance to develop cutting-edge security tools at an unprecedented scale, interfacing with various organizations throughout the company. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with various functions to drive engineering initiatives with a broad organizational impact. Participate in the technical design and strategic planning. Measure team performance and set clear goals and expectations. Partner with leadership to influence and drive organizational design and prioritization. Lead and promote engineering values to ensure a high-performance team culture. Integrate security processes and be resourceful in a constantly evolving environment. Build and nurture relationships with cross-functional partners for efficient project execution. Recruit, develop, and manage a talented team capable of fulfilling our mission. Work collaboratively with partners in Product Management, Data Science, and Data Engineering to design metrics related to attack coverage and detection validation. Minimum Qualifications: BS/Masters in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience. 10+ years of software engineering experience including hands-on technical management. 2+ years of hands-on technical management in security software engineering within product-led environments. Proven success in supporting engineering teams. Demonstrated experience in recruiting and managing technical teams with performance management practices. Experience in cross-organizational collaboration to drive company-wide outcomes. Expertise in leading complex cross-functional programs. Knowledge of operating systems, file systems, and memory structures for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Preferred Qualifications: Specialization in one or more security domains, with experience in Public Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) and large-scale containerized environments being a significant advantage. Background in security-focused software engineering, designing large-scale systems, and data pipelines, or offensive security. Broad knowledge across security domains with experience in areas like log and event processing, incident management, detection, and response tooling development. Comprehensive understanding of system design and detection engineering domains. Compensation:
