Its focus and field of application are interdisciplinary, embracing a broad range of quantitative techniques. Operations research provides a rational approach to engineering and managerial problem solving through deliberate application of scientific methods. The function of the optimization engineer at chevron is to guide decision making by decomposing business problems into mathematical frameworks, developing and proposing courses of action, establishing appropriate metrics and objectives to optimize, and evaluating total system effects.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Develop and implement optimization models to solve complex business problems, including the mathematical formulation of objectives, constraints, and decision variables.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into optimization frameworks.

Maintain and enhance existing optimization models to ensure they align with changing business needs.

Conduct performance testing and troubleshooting to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of optimization solutions.

Provide technical support and training to users on optimization tools and techniques.

Document optimization processes, models, and solutions for future reference and training.

Strong business acumen and ability to understand and address business needs.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.
