Join Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of the optimization of one of the largest cloud infrastructures in the world! We are looking for a talented software development engineer to join our Elastic Block Storage (EBS) Capacity Engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to building distributed systems, machine learning models, and web applications that manage EBS's fleet of servers, which power some of the largest websites and cloud services globally. EBS serves as the solid-state drive for the Internet. You will play a key role in designing, building, and operating software services that impact every AWS data center worldwide. Your contributions will influence the optimal operation of our fleet, affecting exabytes of storage and gigawatts of power. We seek your expertise to enhance EBS capacity plans, improve availability for customers, and strive to reduce power usage and costs at a massive scale. In this position, you will: Design and develop highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems for AWS services. Write efficient, logical, and extensible code that is thoroughly tested. Deliver new features and improvements while also engaging in refactoring efforts to enhance existing systems. Create clear design documents to articulate technical solutions based on customer problems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and engineers, to implement effective technical solutions. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers to foster their skills. Stay informed about industry trends and proactively introduce innovative ideas to the team. Engage in operational support and identify root causes of operational issues to ensure quick resolutions. Your day-to-day activities will include participating in agile meetings, writing code, reviewing peers' work, and ensuring AWS maintains its renowned operational standards and quality service. Our team primarily uses Java, Kotlin, Typescript, Python, and React. Currently, we work at our Boston (Seaport) office, one of the major locations for EBS. We value team bonding through monthly happy hours and team lunches, ensuring a fun atmosphere while we strive to innovate the future of cloud technology. As a member of AWS, you will be part of a diverse and inclusive team that prioritizes mentorship and career development. Our culture fosters work-life balance, embracing flexible work arrangements as we believe your well-being is crucial for success. If you’re ready to take on the challenge of optimizing EBS capacity planning at scale and wish to contribute significantly to our mission, we welcome you to apply!
