Contract SolidWorks Designer Location:

Houston, TX Pay:

$30–$45/hour (DOE) Contract Role – Onsite

Our client in Houston is seeking a

SolidWorks Designer

for a contract position to support their engineering team. This role will focus heavily on mechanical design, advanced 3D modeling, and sheet metal design using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM. If you're experienced with complex assemblies and looking to take ownership of mechanical CAD work, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop detailed 3D models, advanced assemblies, and production-ready drawings based on engineering concepts

Create precise sheet metal fabrication drawings with proper tolerances, dimensioning, and fabrication notes

Manage large assemblies and ensure proper file organization using SolidWorks PDM

Administer SolidWorks PDM system (vault, workflows, permissions, revision control)

Maintain SolidWorks part/material libraries and ensure documentation accuracy

Generate and manage BOMs; ensure designs meet manufacturing and assembly requirements

Collaborate with engineers to iterate and optimize mechanical designs

Present design solutions and participate in design reviews

Support quick-turn changes in a fast-paced, iterative development environment

Train team members on PDM workflows and maintain documentation standards

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of SolidWorks experience including advanced modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings

Proficient with

SolidWorks PDM

(including admin-level responsibilities)

Strong background in

sheet metal design

and manufacturing principles

Experience managing and organizing

large, multi-part assemblies

Solid understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and production processes

Demonstrated ability to maintain drawing accuracy, revision control, and documentation best practices

Qualifications:

Experience with

thermal systems

or willingness to learn thermal design principles

Background in structural drafting or piping design

SolidWorks Simulation or other advanced SolidWorks modules

Familiarity with high-volume production and cost-conscious design

Experience in startup or dynamic environments

SolidWorks Certification

(CSWA, CSWP, or higher)
