Position Summary
The Executive Director is the keystone that ensures the organization’s ability to establish strategic public/private partnerships and serve as a critical linkage point for the end-to-end supply chain and government partners at the federal, state, and local levels. The Executive Director achieves the desired end-state where Healthcare Ready (HcR) is uniquely positioned to facilitate coordination that improves our nation’s ability to plan for and respond to threats that disrupt patient access to healthcare during natural disasters.
The Executive Director is tasked with building and maintaining the long-term financial foundation for HcR. The Executive Director must be able to work and navigate across federal government grants, foundations, and corporate sponsorships to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability and mission fulfillment.
The Executive Director reports directly to the Chairman of the Board, serves as the President of the HcR Board of Directors, and acts as the public face of the organization. The role includes leading a team of four full-time staff members.
Position Responsibilities
- Refine Healthcare Ready’s strategic vision and develop a business strategy aligned with operational goals. Use metrics to evaluate effectiveness. Build trust and credibility as a steward of the mission.
- Provide leadership and a long-term vision to establish a sustainable business model supported by both public and private sectors.
- Identify, develop, and submit grant proposals; oversee project implementation upon award.
- Achieve immediate fundraising targets and build long-term revenue streams. Evaluate fundraising strategies to maximize efficiency. Plan proactively to manage funding fluctuations.
- Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and sponsors. Develop and implement a communications strategy to expand visibility.
- Serve as a thought leader with up-to-date industry knowledge. Embed equity principles into the organization’s strategic direction.
- Build and maintain an engaged Board of Directors.
- Provide strategic direction, delegate tasks, address workflow issues, and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
- Support staff development and training.
- Manage performance through clear expectations, accountability, rewards, and addressing underperformance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, emergency management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years in emergency management, operations, or supply chain, preferably in healthcare or pharmaceuticals.
- Nonprofit leadership experience with understanding of the private healthcare supply chain.
- Proven success in fundraising, with a track record of raising at least $3M over two years.
- Knowledge of federal grant processes and foundation funding, with established relationships.
- Familiarity with government response agencies.
- Strong executive presence and relationship-building skills.
- Visionary leadership with ability to translate strategy into operational goals.
- Experience with social media and digital platforms in healthcare.
- Ability to lead in a dynamic environment and mentor team members.
- Experience working with nonprofit Boards.
- Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with operational tasks.
- Passionate about the mission and able to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.

Healthcare Ready leverages relationships with government, nonprofits, and medical supply chains to build community resilience before, during, and after disasters. It ensures the continued provision of critical medicines during public health emergencies.
It functions as an information-sharing and problem-solving forum for biopharmaceutical and medical device supply organizations, disaster relief agencies, and government agencies.
